| Salgaocar FC U19 kicked off their 3rd Division campaign in style defeating Cortalim Villagers 8-0 |
Salgaocar FC’s juniors put on a stellar display to kick-off their 3rd division campaign with an 8-0 demolition of Cortalim Villagers. The winners led 7-0 at half time. AIFF U19 products Naro Hari (12’, 15’, 35’)and Harmanjot Singh (32’, 53’) signed by the Greens at the start of the season, helped themselves to a fine hat-trick and a brace respectively, whilst Samson (4’), Munna (8’) and Samuel (40’) also found the back of the net. Fresh from their 3rd place finish at the recently concluded Gandhinglaj Cup in Kolhapur, the Salgaocar teenagers were in punishing mood from the outset.
Youth development is an integral part of the philosophy at Salgaocar FC and it comes as no surprise therefore, that each year 4-5 players from the junior teams receive a call up to the senior team.
In a one sided affair, the Greens got off to a brisk start and used the width of the flanks to excellent effect. Raja, Lalit and Harmanjot delivered crosses with pin point precision that ensured the Cortalim defenders were perpetually kept on their toes. The floodgates opened as early as the 4th minute as a quick break saw Samson through on goal and he kept his calm to slot past an on-rushing keeper.
The Salgaocar lads kept attacking relentlessly and continued finding the back of the Cortalim net with relative ease. At the breather, coach Anthony Pereira chose to give a couple of his young teenagers a run out and the script was no different. Salgaocar FC’s U19s could have easily reached double figures if not for their erratic finishing in front of goal. Their dominance was such that the Salgaocar keeper did not have a single save to make through the course of the game. Salgaocar’s juniors next take on Cortalim SC on the 8th of November.
