Bhutia and Shankar Mahadevan launch United Sikkim FC



Baichung Bhutia's dream of owning a football club was cherished quite a long back after he owned United Sikkim FC but the official announcement was an icing on the cake and a moment to remember for the Indian football legend.

Baichung Bhutia along with talismanic musician, Shankar Mahadevan and FidelisWorld launched the club named United Sikkim in Kolkata.

Though the club originally belongs to Sikkim, Bhutia launched it in Kolkata because of the sentiments connected with Kolkata and him. Baichung thanked the city for his development as a football player from the very early days.

United Sikkim will fight it out against 20 other teams in a bid to qualify for next season's i-League. United Sikkim is placed in group A along with NISA, Langsing SC, Gauhati Town Club, Southern Samity, Golden Threads and Simla Youngs. Bhutia is confident that his team has a good chance for a spot in the next season's i-league.

The team is coached by former Mohun Bagan and Shillong Lajong coach Stanley Rozario. The team boasts of Indian International Renedy Singh, N.S.Manju along with Bhutia himself. The four foreigners are Joseph Lapira(Ireland, who had a trial with East Bengal), Johnny Menyongar(Liberia), APD Carvalho(Brazil) and Mituski Ichihara(Japan).
