Dempo will be banking on their midfield maestro, Roberto Mendes Silva(a.k.a. Dempo) along with their Nigerian forward Ranty Martins.
Last editions i-League champions Dempo will face Qatar giants Al-Sadd in the AFC Asian Championship League play-offs. If Dempo can somehow produce a shock then it will be the biggest achievement by any Indian Club ever.
The Qatari champions are much much bigger than what Dempo witnessed when they played the last Play-offs against Al Sharjah two years ago. Al Sadd have some great quality in their half with players who have recently participated in the FIFA World Cup with names like Kader Keita (Forward, Ivory Coast), Lee Jung-Soo (Defender, South Korea), Nadir Belhadj (Winger, Algeria). Al-Sadd are regulars at the AFC Asian Champions League qualifying for the group stages as much as six times.
Dempo are strong as a unit under their coach Armando Colaco who have made the squad one of the most consistent clubs in India clinching the National league i.e. the i-League a record four times. The goan club also has quite a good knowledge and experience at the Asian circuit as they reached the AFC Cup Semi finals back in 2008. Apart from this Dempo is one of the most professional clubs in the country and a place in the AFC Asian Champions League will give them a huge boost.
