Glan Martin's late goal gave Sporting all the motivation to snatch a winner but Aizawl FC held their nerve till full time. Joel Sunday gave Aizawl FC the lead in the 37th minute but the lead was short-lived as Sumeet Passi scored in the added time of first half. Joel Sunday's goal in the 60th minute turned out to be the decisive.

Aizawl FC face Mohun Bagan in the finals of Hero Federation Cup 2016 on 21st May 2016.
