India 0-0 South Korea
The fans at the Tilak Maidan, Goa held their heads high as hosts India kept Asian heavyweights South Korea at bay as the game ended 0-0 in the AIFF Youth Cup 2016 tie. India needed a win to stay in hunt for the 3rd place play-offs but even the draw was a massive result for the young guns who arguably had the better chances to seal the match. The defense stood firm while the midfield and attack chased down every ball with vigor. India goalie Mohammed Nawaz made the save of the match and possibly the tournament, in the injury time of first half with a stunning save to deny the South Korean side. Earlier in the first half, Komal Thatal had the best chance when he flew past his marker down the right hand side and he had an option to pass it to his teammate who made a run in the center but having taken the option to shoot, he missed the far post by a whisker. The scoreline remained 0-0 as neither of the two sides managed to find the winner.
In the other match, USA defeated a resilient Malaysian outfit to book the finals berth against South Korea. Joshua Thomas scored a brace to give his side a two goal lead before the half time whistle. His first came from a penalty kick in the 18th minute while his second goal was in the injury time of first half. Kevin Roberto was given the marching orders in the 51st minute as USA were reduced to ten men. Zainul Arifin pulled one back for Malaysia in the 85th minute but that was not enough as USA marched into the finals.
South Korea will face USA in the final of the AIFF Youth Cup 2016 while Malaysia will battle it out against Tanzania for the third place. Both the fixtures will take place on Wednesday, 25th May 2016.
