Steven Dias gave the home side lead in the 41st minute through a superbly placed free-kick after Eric Brown was brought down near the 18-yard box. Fabio Pena scored from the spot to equalize for Shillong Lajong FC. This was after Penn Orji was illegally fouled former Indian International Anwar Ali leaving referee with no other options than pointing to the spot. The game ended 2-1 in Mumbai FC's favor.

Shillong Lajong FC occupy the last spot going into their final encounter against East Bengal and will have to put a brave effort against the Red and Golds to have any chance of survival for the next season. Mumbai FC, having 16 points will take on DSK Shivajians with the latter not under relegation threat due to corporate entry.
