Mohun Bagan could not fully utilize East Bengal's defeat against Salgaocar FC as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Sporting Goa in their away fixture at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa on Tuesday, 1st March 2016. Sporting enjoyed better possession and were winning the midfield battle. It was Sony Norde's individual brilliance that gave the Mariners the lead as he ghosted past his marker down the left wing to provide a tap-in for Brandon Fernandes. Mohun bagan's goal scorer however had to be stretched off the field after the winger went down with his foot stuck in ground and it seemed to be a serious injury for the former sporting midfielder. It was Raju Giakwad's error which provided the equalizer for the home side as the defender helped the ball into his own net in the 37th minute. Odafa had some good chances to win it for Sporting but the former Bagan hit-man could not convert and the scoreline remained 1-1. Mohun Bagan are still leading the pack with 22 points from 10 games followed by Bengaluru who have 18 points having played a game less, closely followed by East Bengal with 77 points from 9 games.
