Santosh Trophy 2016, Final

Services 2-1 Maharashtra
Services: Arjun Tudu (26th, 37th)
Maharashtra: Mohammed Shabaz (15th)

A brace from Arjun Tudu helped Services retain their Santosh Trophy crown defeating Maharashtra 2-1 in the finals played at the SEC Railway Stadium, Nagpur on Sunday, 13th March 2016. Maharashtra took the lead in the 15th minute when Mohammed Shabaz provided a neat finish to a neat release from Mervin Stephen.

Services however bounced back with intent as they scored the equalizer and then the winner within the first half. Just 11 minutes after conceeding, Arjun Tudu came up with the equalizer converting from a Francis Zununtluanga pass. The second goal for services which eventually proved to be the title clincher came from a defensive lapse by Maharashtra to which the man-in-form Arjun Tudu capitalized. Maharashtra, backed by a "sporting" crowd gave a good account of themselves making some good attacks but it failed to bear any fruit as Services went on to win this year's Santosh Trophy title.

Indian National Team coach Stephen Constantine witnessed the match and praised the efforts put in by both team. Constantine said, “Both Teams worked very hard. Services despite conceding early had the better of exchanges in the first half. But Maharashtra controlled most of the second half and had they converted their chances, they could have won it. But Services deserved to win it. Congrats to the Players, the Coach and the entire staff.”

Arjun Tudu was awarded with the Man of the Match Trophy with his side - Services being handed over the Santosh Trophy title along with a cheque of Rs. 5 Lakh by Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
