Lao Toyota FC 2-1 Bengaluru FC
LT: Kazuo Homma(2nd), Phatthana Syvilay(34th)
BFC: Vineeth CK(90th)
Bengaluru FC missing the services of Sunil Chhetri and Eugeneson Lyngdoh could never get into their usual rhythm against a spirited Lao Toyota FC. The home side went ahead with just 2 minutes in the clock through a Kazuo Homma goal after a defensive chaos from Ashley Westwood's men. The link up play was never on display from "The Blues" who struggled to adapt to the away match. Things got worse for Bengaluru FC as they fell behind by two goals after Phatthana Syvilay scored from a expertly taken free kick in the 34th minute. The second half however belonged mostly to Bengaluru FC, especially after the home side were reduced to ten men. Lao Toyota FC skipper Moukda Souksavath was shown second yellow card in the 65th minute. Bengaluru FC scored a late goal through Vineeth CK but could not find the equalizer despite coming close on number of occasions. This was Lao Toyota FC's first ever victory in AFC Cup after they failed to get any wins under their name last season in the continental cup.

Defending i-League champions, Mohun Bagan were ruthless from the beginning against Maziya Sports & Recreation in their opening match of AFC Cup 2016 played at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Guwahati. The attacking trio of Sony Norde, Cornell Glen and Jeje Lalpekhlua were already on the scorers list by 35th minute. Sony Norde scoring the opening goal followed by strikes from Jeje Lalpekhlua and Cornell Glen. The Mariners were largely dominant and their passes and movement were really a treat to watch. Maziya did reduce the deficit in the 61st minute through Ahmed Maaz after Raju Gaikwad gave away possession inside Mohun Bagan's box. Jeje however brought back the three goal lead when he cleverly finished off a fine move. Cornell Glen made the scoreline 5-1 capitalizing on a rebound after Maziya custodian saved Kean Lewis's effort. Raju Gaikwad, who was the culprit for the first goal for the away side, had a day to forget after he scored an own goal in the 76th minute. The scoreline however remained 5-2 for Mohun Bagan as they marched on to a solid victory.
