Team India face Maldives in the semi-final clash of SAFF Suzuki Cup 2015 today, 31st December 2015 at the Trivandrum International Stadium, Kerala. The clash is a repeat of SAFF Championship 2013 where India edged past Maldives 1-0 thanks to a 86th minute goal from Arnab Mondal.


Team India are unbeaten in the tournament after the group stage matches, defeating Sri Lanka(2-0) and Nepal(4-1)in the process. Maldives had defeated Bhutan(3-1) and Bangladesh(3-1) while ended on the losing side against Afghanistan(4-1) and finished second in the group. Maldives legend Ali Ashfaq is their highest goal scorer in the tournament with 2 goals in 3 matches.


In the pre-match press conference, Indian National Football Team Head Coach Stephen Constantine said, "We are looking forward to a difficult game against Maldives as they are a good side. Not only are Maldives highly organized, they are good in the attacking department too."


In-form striker Robin Singh, who missed the last match due to injury has been ruled out of the tournament. Speaking on Robin Singh, the gaffer added, "Although our preparations were hampered by Robin’s injury, which is a big blow for us, life goes on. But it also gives the opportunity to the other Players to fill into his shoes."


In Robin Singh's absence 18-year old young forward from Liverpool FC International Football Academy DSK Shivajians, Lallianzuala has shone whenever called upon. Among the long list of debuts handed by Stephen Constantine, Koushik Sarkar, 22 year old defender, was also another player given the senior cap when he became the 503rd player to represent the country.


The match is slated to kick-off at 15:30 IST (3:30 PM IST) and will be telecast live on Star Sports 4 and Star Sports 4 HD.


In the other semi-final of the day, defending champions Afghanistan play against Sri Lanka. That match kicks-off at 18:30 Hrs and will also be shown live on Star Sports 4 and Star Sports 4 HD.
