Sunil Chhetri might be axed from the Nehru Cup squad

Sunil Chhetri might not be able to make it to the
Nehru Cup 2012 final squad

Sunil Chhetri might not be able to make it to the final squad for the upcoming Nehru Cup 2012. Sunil who is playing for Sporting Clube de Portugal's "B" team has expressed his inability to join the preparatory camp to the All India Football Federation(AIFF) stating his club commitments as the reason. Sporting Clube de Portugal "B" have matches on August 12th and 19th which clashes with the preparatory camp and thus the star striker has asked for joining the team only after 19th August. It is learnt that newly appointed Dutch coach Wim Koevermans is unwilling to allow players a direct entry to his squad without judging them in the training grounds during the preparatory camp which starts on 1st August. The federation has informed Chhetri that he might not get the permission to join the team at latter stage and thus could cost him his place in the side if he intends to choose his club over his country.

Meanwhile Subrata Paul who is on trials at RB Leipzig, a german 4th division club has been given the permission to join the camp on August 5th.

Nehru Cup is slated to kick off on 23rd August while the preparatory camp will start on 1st August at Jaypee Greens, New Delhi.
