India 5- 0 Bhutan India : Syed Rahim Nabi (28'), Clifford Miranda(43', 58'), Chhettri (69', 84') |
India secured an easy win over Bhutan in the 2011 SAFF Championship match played today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. India were on the front foot right from the word go!! The inevitable goal was always on the cards as India pushed harder for goal from the start. The highlight of the match was to watch versatile wing back Syed Rahim Nabi making the darting runs from the left side and always looking to be on the score-sheet.
Syed Rahim Nabi managed to hit the back of the net three consecutive times but only to see each of them being disallowed due to offside. One such occasion was an unfortunate incident where Sunil Chhetri almost found the back of the net but only to see the ball hitting Syed Rahim Nabi at the goal line and the goal was disallowed. The fourth attempt however was declared as a goal and the scorer was none other than Syed Rahim Nabi himself. The wing back sweetly headed a cross from Clifford Miranda's well taken corner and thus earning India the lead. It was Clifford Miranda who registered himself to the score-sheet as he finished from a Sunil Chhetri's pass in the 43rd minute.
It was the winger Miranda who made his tally of goals to two as his he scored from Sunil Chhetri's pass again in the 58th minute. Sunil Chhetri who till now provided two assists turned to a goalscorer as he netter two fine goals in the 69th(assisted by Clifford) and 84th minute, with the second one showing his sheer class while he managed to get past an entire line of Bhutanese defence line before scoring past the goalkeeper to make it 5-0 for India. Thus India managed to take itself to the top spot of its group with four points from two matches with a goal difference of +5, followed by Afghanistan having 4 points from 2 matches with +2 goal difference.
Todays star performers were:
Syed Rahim Nabi(1 goal)
Syed Rahim Nabi,Superb Performance from the Versatile wing Back |
Could have easily scored more goals with his constant support to the forward line and darting runs from the left side.
Clifford Miranda(2 goal and 2 assists)
Clifford Miranda, Wonderful performance from the Dempo winger |
Clifford Miranda capped a fine performance with two goals and two assist. The winger was virtually no match to the Bhutan defence when he was in top gear. His speed is a big asset to the team. He was also one of the better performers in the first match. Good performance from the Dempo winger.
Sunil Chhetri(2 goals and two assists)
Sunil Chhetri, was on fire especially in the second half with two goals |
The forward looked out of the mainstream action in the first half but came alive after the second half started. Showed his pure class in scoring the second goal getting past several Bhutanese defenders before slotting it past the Bhutan custodian.
In other match:
Afghanistan 3-1 Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka: Mohamed Zain(16')
Afghanistan: Sanjar Ahmadi(24',25'), Yamir Ali(78')
