Indian team will play Maldives today in an international friendly at the National Stadium, Male. India will be seeing this match as a chance to prepare for their World Cup Qualifying match against UAE whereas Maldives will mark it as a part of their preparation for their World Cup Qualifying campaign against Iran. Maldives who are ranked 4 places below India in the FIFA World Rankings got a boost after their star player Ali Ashfaq, got green signal for the match despite recovering from an injury, which means that he will have only some part to play in the friendly.

Indian team Interim Coach Armando Colaco will consider it as an opportunity to test out his several players so that he can finalize his squad for the World Cup Qualifiers against UAE. Colaco will be banking on his youth squad to get the better of the hosts. India have met Maldives 14 times, out of which India defeated them 9 times, whereas Maldives have won 4 times. Their last encounter was in 2009 SAFF Cup Finals where Indian U-23 team defeated them 3-1 in Penalty Shoot Outs.
Meanwhile, Sunil Chhetri has been appointed as the Captain of the team for this match. Coach Armando Colaco pointed out that he has chosen three names for the captaincy band which are Sunil Chhetri, Subrata Paul and Climax Lawrence. The captain for the World Cup Qualifiers against UAE are yet to be decided. Chhetri sounded confident as he said that he will give his 200% and his side will go all out for a win. Maldives Argentinine Coach Andrés Cruciani sounded upset, he said that he needed to play against far better team as they will be facing Iran.

This will be the first test for Armando Colaco, Can the team adjust to the Dempo Style of Play, only time will tell. One thing is for sure is that it wont be a walk in the park, especially after the comments made by Maldives Coach.
