East Bengal 2-0 Mohun Bagan
(Robin 12',59')
It was an electrifying atmosphere in Salt Lake stadium when the two kolkata giants met in a CFL match. Near about 1 Lakh spectators were present at the stadium to witness yet another derby. Both sides last met in a exhibition match at the finals of Mohammedan's Platinum Celebrations Cup where East Bengal edged past Mohun Bagan in penalties.
For a change, Sri Lankan referee Gamini Nivon Roesh was appointed this time by IFA. The match started with good attacking football and it took only 12 minutes for the first goal. It was the young lad from Noida who snatched on to a golden opportunity given by Shilton Paul when he (Shilton) failed to grab a cross from Tolgay.
The scoreline read 1-0 to East Bengal after the half time whistle. It was Tolgay who showed his quality when he managed to cross an amazingly well measured cross from right which Robin nodded in for his brace.
Two strikes from Robin Singh led the Red & Golds to a derby victory over Mohun Bagan. Tolgay proved with two assists. While the first one was due to Shilton's fault, the second one was a beauty by Aussie striker Tolgay Ozbey when he beautifully crossed the ball from right wing which was nodded home from Robin. Sanju Pradhan also had a good match with his solo runs down the flanks. Penn Orji was awarded the man of the match award due to his exceptional ability to supply the front line which created the goals for them. The match also witnessed some out of the field incidents where some supporters got seriously injured due to crackers and hand grenades. We wish them speedy recovery and also hope that these kind of incidents doesn't take place again.
