I-League 2016-17 opening day saw East Bengal earning a late point thanks to new signing Ivan Bukenya's header cancelling out Gurwinder Singh's own goal. Elsewhere, defending champions Bengaluru FC put in a solid show at their fortress, registering a convincing 3-0 victory against the highladners ShillOng Lajong FC.
