AFC Cup 2016 Final

Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium, Doha
Bengaluru FC(India) 0-1 Air Force Club(Iraq)
IFC: Ahmed Hammadi(70th)
Bengaluru FC went down 1-0 to Air Force Club of Iraq in the AFC Cup 2016 finals but not before putting up a brave fight which will go down to the history books as the first even Indian club to reach to the grand finale of the second largest continental club tournament - the AFC Cup.
Hammadi's 70th minute strike proved to be the only difference between the two sides. Opportunities did arrrive for Bengaluru FC but one could point out that the Iraqi team were the deserved champions. It was a match which Bengaluru FC could have 'either won or learn' and they did no bad in achieving the latter. The performance as a whole is something to boast about for years to come as a three year old club took giant strides in their progress.
Coach Albert Roca was proud of the performance of his boys and he has every right to be. He was quoted saying the to the Bengaluru FC website, "I am really proud of my players. They have proved that to be here in the final is not easy. They deserve to be here and going forward it’s the beginning of a new era."
This is one of the big step for Indian football and one can only hope that it acts as a catalyst towards the development of Indian Football.
