Bengaluru FC took a 1-0 lead in the first leg over Tampines Rovers in the AFC Cup 2016 Quarter final played at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Wednesday. The game was played behind closed doors as reported earlier. Juan Gonzalez, Cameron Watson and Alvaro Rubio were handed debuts by the newly appointed Bengaluru FC coach Albert Roca.

The only goal came from CK Vineeth who tapped home from close range in the 7th minute to give new coach Albert Roca a winning debut for the Blues. It was some good defensive work from skipper Sunil Chhetri to gain the possession from the visiting Tampines Rovers team and lay off to Alwyn George, who was blocked at the last moment but the ball went straight to Vineeth whose shot rattled the crosspiece before going in.

The visitors tried their best to equalize but the Bengaluru FC defense held well to go into the second leg with a one goal lead and crucially not conceding any away goals in the process.

The second leg of the Quarter Finals is scheduled on 21st September 2016.
