Odisha score 3 goals in the first half and thwart a very offence oriented Mizoram team to score a hard fought 3-1 victory over Mizoram in their first quarter-finals match played at Raia Panchayat Ground, Raia. Odisha boasting of 10 International players in their squad were the clear favourites entering into this highly contested match. Mizoram started off well and look threatening right from the opening whistle. The Mizoram team also withstood 2 quick counter attack moves in the first 20 minutes of play by Odisha and their captain Lalduhawmi stood tall in defense. Against the run of play, Odisha scored a goal in the 29th min with a fine volley from Swarnapriya Nayak giving Odisha a 1-0 lead. Mizoram, stunned by the goal having dominated proceedings so far, fought back and tried hard for an equalizer. Their hard work bore fruit and Mizoram scored an equalizer in the 41 min with goal from long throw in by B. Vanlalhriattiri. Odisha team had a sense of composure and calm over them and the equalizer did not seem to deter their spirits. Odisha got a goal gifted to them in the 43rd min with a defense lapse by Mizoram with the weak back pass to the Goalkeeper. The ball did not carry along well and the Odisha forward and India International Arati Sethi exploited the situation and scored using a simple tap in goal. The 2nd goal gave Odisha a 2-1 lead. Anima Malik and Jasmani Samad combined brilliantly upfront for Odisha to create numerous scoring opportunities. One such quick 1-2 passing between the duo and a neat pass forward to Susmita Dalei led to a nice goal in the 45th min to give Odisha a commanding 3-1 lead going into the half-time break. Coming out of the half-time break, a rejuvenated Mizoram team went into the offensive right from the start of the second half and tried really hard to break down Odisha’s tight defense line. Eva Panna, Jabamani Tudu, Janaki Murmu showed their International class and did not provide any room for the hard fighting Mizoram forwards. Odisha slowly settled into the match and took control of the game with a strong midfield play by Arati Sethi, Sasmita Behera and Laxmi Munda. Mizoram had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down by the Referee in the 70th min. Both sides were evenly matched and made good attempts to make inroads and break the opposition’s defense. Mizoram held the ball for most parts of the match and seemed to be the team in control of the match, but Odisha’s neat finishing in offense and good composure in defense was the difference maker between the two sides. The match ended with the final score of 3-1 in favour of Odisha.
Odisha next play Goa on 15th Oct, 2015 at 7:30am at Rosary Sports Complex, Navelim and it is poised to be a very interesting match with Goa entering the match in a must-win situation having lost their first match against Delhi earlier today with a margin of 0-2. Mizoram take on a psychologically boosted Delhi side having thumped Goa in their opening Quarter-Finals match at Raia Panchayat Ground at 7:30am on 15th Oct, 2015.

Match No.31: Delhi v/s Goa, 7:30am, Rosary Sports Complex, Navelim

Delhi stuns Goa with a 2-0 victory in their opening quarterfinals match.
U18 Girls National Football Championship: Delhi 2-0 Goa
Delhi stun Goa in the quarterfinals of U-18 Girls National Championship
Final Score: Delhi 2-0 Goa

Goal Scorers for Delhi:
Meghna Arora (43 Min)
Anushka Samuel (78 Min)

Delhi girls U-18 squad scored a very impressive 2-0 over hosts, Goa in their opening quarterfinals match played at Rosary Sports Complex, Navelim in the ongoing National Football Championship for Girls U-18. Goa entered the match as the clear favourites having had impressive wins in their group stage matches. Delhi however entered the match with a plan of their own and stuck by a very gritty effort and disciplined play for the entire 90mins duration to thump the hosts, 2-0. Goa were a little unlucky on a couple of occasions with the ball hitting the crossbar twice which seemed like definite goals for Goa. Meghna Arora scored the first goal for Delhi in the 43rd min and Delhi went into the half-time break with a slender lead of 1-0. Goa kept pushing hard for an equalizer but their key players, Velanie Fernandes, Cianna Lobo and Anline Fernandes were marked brilliantly by the Delhi defense on a one-on-one strategic game play. The Delhi team did not give much room for Goa midfielders to create plays and minimized the goal scoring opportunities for the Goan forwards. As Goa went ahead in trying to find an equalizer, it started creating big gapes in their defense line. Delhi against the run of play made a nice counter attack move and scored a second goal against Goa in the 78 min with the boots of their India team International player Anushka Samuel. The second goal dampened the Goan girls spirits and the match ended with the final score of 2-0 in favour of underdogs of this tournament, team Delhi.
All is not lost for Goa and they still stand a strong chance of making it into the Semi-Finals if they overcome a strong Odisha side and a gritty & talented Mizoram side in their next 2 quarter finals league matches.
