Mohammedan Sporting came up on top in the IFA shield 2014 finals after penalty shootout in a thrilling finale against an equally impressive Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi FC. Both teams gave their all as the match ended 1-1 even after extra time with the game never lacking in pace and excitement. Both sides played a tireless attacking brand of football which saw the huge Kolkata crowd going berserk. The first goal came from the visiting side as the much talked about striker, Sony Norde came up with a stunning freekick on the 27th minute which went inside the goal after striking the woodwork. Mohammdan's equalizer came from an unlikely source as Mehrajuddin Wadoo kept his composure to finish from close range in the added time of first half. Both teams had their chances to go ahead but neither could apply the finishing touch. In the midst, an unwanted incident saw Sony Norde and Luciano Sarbosa getting marching orders from the referee, as both teams went down by a man in the 82nd minute. The scoreline remained 1-1 after full time.

Both teams made some important substitution in the extra time as a penalty shootout seemed imminent. The most notable change came in the form of goalkeeper Naseem Akhtar who replaced Luis Barreto under the Mohammedan post.

In the crucial title deciding penalty shootout, substitute Ali of Shiekh Jamal Dhanmondi FC and Josimar Martins of Mohammedan, both were the first to missed their spot kicks for their team as the score was tied 3-3(penalties). Indian International Syed Rahim Nabi missed the crucial final penalty for his team, thus giving the Bangladeshi side a golden chance to win the IFA Shield 2014 for the first time. Naseem Akhtar came up to his side's rescue as he saved Nasir's shot and more importantly, keeping the title hopes alive for Mohammedan. Up next, Mehrajuddin Wadoo, who scored the all important equalizer for Mohammedan earlier, converted from the spot. The match and the tournament winner was decided in the very next kick as Dhanmondi FC failed to convert their final spot kick in sudden death with Naseem Akhtar again acrobatically saving the shot diving to his right.

Mohammedan Sporting thus completed their double, winning the IFA Shield 2014 and the Durand Cup.
