DD Sports to broadcast Lusofonia Games Goa 2014

DD Sports, the state owned TV Channel telecasting from Doordarshan Kendra in Delhi, has been
named as the official broadcaster for next month's Lusofonia Games to be held in Goa.

The National sports channel is set to invest Rs 10 crore to make the Lusofonia Games 2014 telecast an enriching experience. DD Sports has sought 200 accreditations for their crew and will telecast most of the matches live.

In view of the new development involving DD Sports owning the television rights of Lusofonia Games, all programming requests from National and International channels will now be directed to DD Sports. The channel will provide feeds to local television channels as well.

Speaking on the development, Mr. Keshav Chandra, CEO, Lusofonia Games, commented, “We are glad to have DD Sports on Board to telecast all the sporting action live. We are sure the channel will do justice to the Games and help us reach maximum people through its live telecast.”

DD Sports made a name for itself at the London Olympics 2012, emerging as the most watched non-cricket sporting event in Indian television history, with some reports even putting it ahead of ESPN Star Sports. More than 100 million people in the country were estimated to have watched the Olympics.

The Lusofonia Games are among the largest and the most prestigious multinational, multi-sport games in the world organized by ACOLOP (Associação dos Comités Olímpicos de Língua Oficial Portugues), which involves athletes coming from Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) countries.

Athletes from 12 nations will compete in the 9 different sporting disciplines – Athletics, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Football, Judo, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball and Wushu.
