Wim Koevermans attends Delhi Youth League |
Coming on the back of leading India to two good results against Philippines and Nepal, Indian national team coach paid visit to the Delhi Youth League. The Dutch played host to the top of the table clash in the U-15 category match between Youth Football International (YFI) and Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS) at the British School in Delhi today (24 November 2013). The YFI won 5-2.
The Dutchman was impressed with the initiative and was pleasantly surprised to see talent of such nature at display in a city like Delhi. The 53-year-old also made a short visit at another venue for the league in DPS R.K. Puram.
The Delhi Youth League was started in January 2013 and is in its second season running. The first season was heavily successful. The league hosts teams from different academies, NGO’s and public and private schools in various age groups from 6-19 and is held between the months of September and April. It is a non-profit initiative and has received heavy appreciation from critics, children and parents alike.
With a paucity of football activities, proper structure and lack of infrastructure as well, the league has come in as a breath of fresh air for the enthusiastic and prospective players from the city to showcase talent, learn the nitty gritties of the game and compete with the best. A lot of expats are a part of the league as well with kids from across the world playing and competing in the league.
