Kingfisher East Bengal vs McDowell Mohun Bagan: Its time for Kolkata Derby

Its time for one of the most fierce derby of Asia and also recognized by world football. The battle of the Red and Golds against the Mariners, the battle of Ilish against Chingri, its super Sunday and its none other than Kingfisher East Bengal vs McDowell Mohun Bagan at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata. The match that is marked as one of The Most Important match on the calender by both the clubs. Perhaps for some it is more important then any glory whether its i-League or AFC Champions League. None matters more than a derby match. For some its about bragging rights and for some its about holding to their job and reputation. Many coaches have seen their life make or break after the full time whistle. Undoubtedly it attracts one of the biggest crowd, sometimes even bigger than any other match in world football.

As the match is few hours away you can always sense the temperature rising at every place where football is the first choice of discussion, mainly in social networking sites. Its always about getting the bragging rights for the supporters of the winning team. One simply cannot miss the chance to watch this mega-event live. The atmosphere has always been electric with drums and chants all over the giant stadium of Kolkata. Weather you a are travelling in an auto or getting your haircut in a saloon in Kolkata, you surely will hear the buzz everywhere during the derby. For the Coach and players, it means all to them. Nobody can ill-afford to under-perform, else they are not to be spared by even their own set of supporters.

In the present scenario, East Bengal, currently lying second in the league table, are the team to beat this season, as they are yet to be defeated by any team. The team is playing a good and attractive brand of football under their Australian coach Trevor James Morgan. But one thing is for sure that form does not mean anything when it comes to the giant derby. Chidi Edeh is their main man upfront with Manandeep playing alongside him also contributing to the team. Penn Orji has been a vital player in the supporting role which provides strength to their team.

Here is the list scorers for East Bengal:

Harmanjot Singh Khabra

For Mohun Bagan, the season has not been very impressive to say the least with problems in every position. Their midfield is not anything to talk about and neither is their back-line. There is concern in the goalkeeping department also with Shilton also not performing to expectations. The only good thing about the team is their Nigerian goal machine Odafa Okolie who has been in prime form and as discussed earlier is driving his team forward. Mohun Bagan fans also know that for their team to have a chance to win, it should be the Nigerian. Hardly he is getting any support from his team mates and Karim Bencherifa will hope that his rest of the team takes queue from the captain and give him a priceless gift with a victory over their arch rivals.

Here is how Mohun Bagan have been in front of goal:

Players Name
Number of Goals Scored
Odafa Okolie
8

Denson Devadas

Stanley Okoroigwe

Team Name

Mohun Bagan

It is astonishing to see that East Bengal has only conceded a single goal while scoring as many as 15 while defensively Mohun Bagan have been leaking goals. The Mohun Bagan supporters must be hoping that Odafa shines again for them to outclass the strong East Bengal squad.
