| Sunil Chhetri signs for Sporting Lisbon (Sporting Clube de Portugal) |
Sunil Chhetri will sign for Portuguese heavyweights Sporting Lisbon(Sporting Clube de Portugal) for the upcoming season. Sunil will play for Sporting Clube de Portugal "B" side which plays in the Liga de Honra,which is Portuguese second division. This is by far The Biggest Transfer of Indian footballing history. The transfer has been made possible by the collaboration of Sporting Clube de Portugal and Football One, the football arm of new Wizcraft International Entertainment venture Sports One. The collaboration of Sporting Clube de Portugal and Football One will look to develop Indian Football and Sunil's signing is the first step towards the same. Sporting Lisbon (also known as Sporting CP) is one of the top clubs of the top flight of Portuguese football, Primeira Liga. It is known for producing world class footballers with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo(Real madrid), Nani(Manchester United), Luis Figo.

For Sunil it will be his second venture outside India after he was snapped up by Kansas City Wizards(or Sporting Kansas City) on March, 2010. Sunil was not able to break into the starting line-up of Kansas and only got few minutes of play which included a 45 minute appearance in a Cup Tie and a cameo appearance in a exhibition match against visiting Manchester United.
