Star Players to be auctioned in January for Premier League Soccer(PLS)

Several players are on the verge of playing for district level teams of kolkata when they will be picked up in auction for Premier League Soccer(or the PLS) which is slated to take place in January whereas the tournament should commence from February.

Six teams Kolkata, Howrah, Barasat, Siliguri, Durgapur and Haldia will be allotted to as many franchisees after the bidding. Some names which are making the rounds this time for the auction, These names includes several well renowned world cupper's and top class coaches. Some of these names include:
 Hidetoshi Nakata(Japan) and Robbie Fowler(England)

 Hidetoshi Nakata(Japan), Robert Pirès(France), Okocha(Nigeria), Robbie Fowler(England), Nuno Ricardo de Oliveira Ribeiro(also known as Maniche, Portugal), Fabio Firmani (Italy), Edwin Tenorio(Ecuador). 

Renowned coaches include the names of Samson Siasia(Nigeria), Tony Adams(England), John Barnes(England).

Auctioned Players will be categorized in several groups which includes Icons, World Cuppers, U-17/U-19 World Cup participants.

A quick look at the Tournament Format/Rules:

  • Six franchisees will bid for six towns in a competitive bidding system.
  • The bidding companies will only be eligible if they have a net sum of Rs. 10 Crores.
  • League Duration: 7 Weeks
  • Team will consist of National as well as International Players.
  • 3 Maximum overseas players, Minimum 1 Overseas player(Asian Origin Player), Minimum of 6 U-21 Players, Minimum of 5 Catchment Players, Maximum of 10 players from anywhere in India.
  • Maximum Squad Length: 18 and 1 Coach, 1 Assistant Coach along with a Physio
  • UEFA/FIFA 'A' licenced Coach of overseas origin
  • Starting XI: Max. 3 overseas Player, 1 Asian Origin Player, 1 U-21 Player
  • Apart from the 3 overseas Players, there will be one Icon player who should be preferably a World Cupper or should have represented his country.
  • All matches will be played under Floodlights
  • All matches will be telecasted live on a Regional Channel.

Indian stars not playing in i-League will also participate


Only those Indian players who are not a part of the i-League will also be available to be roped in by the teams. Players such as Renedy Singh, Dipendu Biswas, Sushil Kumar Singh will thus be available for selection. I-league clubs could also have the opportunity to sign the star players if they are interested.
