                                            Mohun Bagan   1 - 2   Royal Wahingdoh

Mohun Bagan had a good start to the match against i-League 2nd Division side, Royal Wahingdoh who qualified through the Preliminary stages. It was Indian International Sunil Chhetri, who found himself in a one-one situation against the Royal Wahingdoh custodian Karma, Chhetri managed to beat Karma but only to see his shot hit the left post and ricocheted back to him, but Chhetri again somehow managed to hit the post from a more acute angle with an open net as the ball went out. Mohun Bagan dominated most of the game but it was Royal who took the lead against the run of play with a fluid Counter attack, which was ended by Chencho who headed the ball from close range. The Mohun Bagan custodian, Shilton was too slow to react and his boots seemed to have stuck in the ground as he put a very lame effort. Mohun Bagan were reduced to 10 men thanks to some silly fouls by N.P.Pradeep which saw him getting his second yellow. The second goal came just after five minutes as where Chencho again scored of a close range with the Mohun Bagan defence at bay making it an embarrassing 2-0. Introduction of Brazilian Hudson Lima seemed to make some impact on the Mohun Bagan team as they created more chances. Ashim Biswas gave Mohun Bagan some hope as he managed to score from a Barreto's pass in the 75th minute which made the scoreline 2-1, but much to the disappointment of the Mohun Bagan fans the scoreline remained the same.

East Bengal   1 - 1   Mohammedan SC

East Bengal started their campaign against another Kolkata outfit, Mohammedan Sporting. Mohammedan Sporting played at a frantic pace against the Red and Golds in the first half despite being the underdogs. They managed to match East Bengal in every department. It was the 17th minute which saw the Red and Golds fall behind when South Korean recruit  Han Wook was tripped by Sandip Nandy, with the referee eventually giving a spot kick. Another foreign recruit Stanly Scored from the spot kick with a calm finish from his outside boot. Second half saw East Bengal equalizing through their captain Sanju Pradhan. In the 48th minute, a corner for East Bengal was steered to Sanju's way, from where the East Bengal Captain struck a ferocious shot, which saw Mohammedan Goalkeeper left stunned at his mark. East Bengal tried their best to gain the lead but resilient Mohammedan managed to hold on to a draw.
