| Ariel Ortega, close to Dempo Move |
Dempo are keen to land Argentinine Legend Ariel Ortega as their new foreign recruit. What has been touted as one of the biggest signing of Indian Football History, Dempo seems to face a rather strange problem to complete the deal. While Surprisingly, Ortega, who is now 36, will come cheaper than Ranty Martins in terms of wages, he(Ortega) is demanding 20% of Merchandising Shares, which is a unknown Concept in Indian Football. Any Indian Club hardly has its merchandising to say the least.
Ortega who has featured in three FIFA World Cups for Argentina, was once compared with legend Maradona, has had his problems with his club River Plate. Ortega was found guilty because of his alcoholic habits. Nevertheless, Dempo Coach Armando Colaco still feels that the Argentinine will be quite a buy, and will stand in a different league amongst other.
Ortega known for his accurate lobs over the Goalkeepers, has played for several clubs over his long career which includes Valencia, Sampdoria, Parma, Fenerbahçe apart from his childhood club River Plate. Ortega has represented his country 87 times. Only time will tell whether this signing goes through or not, but if this happens than it will open a completely new chapter in Indian Football.
