India loose to Qatar in the 1st leg of Pre-Olympic Qualifiers

India 1-3 Qatar
India: Jeje(7')
Qatar: Al-Ansari (15'), Hassan (54'), Al Nil (69')

Indian U-23 team despite starting the match in a bright note went on to loose their away match 3-1 in the second round match of the Pre-Olympic Qualifiers played at the Al-Sadd stadium on Sunday. It was none other than Jeje who started the proceedings for India, when he pushed the ball to the net after receiving it from Raju Gaikwad's special long throw. But India's lead could have ended within a matter of two minutes if Kattimani had not saved a penalty from Hassan. India however gave another penalty few minutes after, and that opportunity was taken by Qatar, as they managed to grab the equalizer in the 15th minute through Al-Ansari. Jeje missed a golden opportunity in the 30th minute, after which the game slowed down. The first half score read 1-1.
Jeje scored again

After the break, it was the Qatari side who looked more eager to grab the lead as they had a dog share of possession. It was Hassan's stunning 30 yard strike which caught the Indian Custodian unawares, and Qatar got the lead. After that Indian players looked fatigued as they were easily giving away the possession. The hosts took a two goal lead in the 69th minute from a simple tap-in by Mohamed Elneel. It was game over for the Bulpin's boys thanks to some poor defending. The match ended 3-1 in favor of Qatar but it could have easily been more if Kattimani had not saved some goal bound chances for Qatar.

India will face Qatar in the return leg on 23rd June at the Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune.
