Shillong Lajong Qualifies for i-League

It took only one season for the Red Brigade to comeback to the Elite group, the i-League. It was only last season that Shillong Lajong were relegated from the i-League along with Sporting Club De Goa. And this time, Lajong were the first to qualify for the i-League with a superb performance in the final phase of the Second Division i-League, grabbing 16 points out of a possible 21 in 7 matches.

Though Lajong suffered a big blow as their main forward upfront Saikhohau Tuboi was suspended from the Second Division i-League after the 5th match. This meant that Lajong would have to play without their main forward upfront for the rest of the two matches out of which Lajong needed one win and they duly delivered with a win against Mohammedan Sporting in their last match.

Gumpe Rime, Shillong Lajong Captain and Goalkeeper

Speaking the Indian Football - The Blog, Shillong Lajong Captain and Goalkeeper Gumpe Rime was ecstatic about their qualification."Success come after a long time, but when it comes it is always fruitful. Sometimes obstacles do come, but have to get through it. One thing that had helped us is that the squad which had played last time in the i-league and this time in the second Division i-League is more or less the same with the Injection of few new recruits. Each and everybody played their part, and deserves their credit" said the Lajong Captain.

Speaking about the crowd Support, he added "Not only the players but the massive crowd support we got deserves a special mention. The crowd that came here to cheer us, were even more than most of the clubs that get in the i-League. That much crowd helps the players to perform out of their skins. Its something rare in Indian Football except for few well established clubs. North East has always produced significant amount of attendance. It was quite evident when Lajong participated last year in the i-League and drew good amount of crowd not only in their home matches but also in away matches."
Massive Crowd Support for Lajong is a great boost for Indian Football
"Its all about learning from your mistakes, and I feel that our club has done that. We are very sure that we can put up a better show this time when we make a comeback to the i-League. We gave our everything last time also, but there is always a scope for improvement." said the 35 year old, Goalkeeper and Captain.

Indian Football - The Blog congratulates the entire Shillong Lajong Team for their success and wishes them good luck for their comeback to the i-League.
