Kolkata's Salt Lake stadium witnessed a dramatic match in which as many as 8 goals were scored. It was the home side who took an early 2-0 lead through Aussie forward Tolgay Ozbey when he scored in the 8th and 22nd minute. But the second goal also brought some bad news for the Red and golds as their prolific Aussie striker got injured while scoring the second one. This forced coach Trevor Morgan to replace him and bring in their Brazilian recruit Alexandro(a.k.a. Leko). Chonburi FC made a dramatic come back after those two goals as they went on to level terms scoring two goals before the half time whistle through Pipob(29') and Adul Lahso(43').
The second half brought disbelief among the East Bengal supporters as the visiting side took an early 4-2 lead within the first 10 minutes of the second half. But Trevor Morgan's smart change which saw Ravinder and Baljit Sahini coming in for Vasum and Sanju Pradhan in the 59th minute turned the match. East Bengal looked more comfortable in the midfield and slowly started to get more possession. It was Baljit Sahini who reduced the scoreline to 3-4 in the 74th minute after which East Bengal were rewarded with a penalty on 76th minute. Ravinder didn't made any mistake in converting the penalty and the scoreline read 4-4. The last few minutes saw both sides getting opportunities but the scoreline remained the same because of some good goalkeeping. East Bengal got a scare in the final minute when one of the Chonburi's player somehow managed to break the offside trap and beat the goalie all ends up through a dummy but somehow managed to miss the open net.
