Special mention: Biswadeep Sarkar

This is a special post in which I shall introduce some youngster.

Biswadeep Sarkar
Age - 14 yrs 8 months
Weight - 42 kgs
Height - 5'2"
Place of Residence: Durgapur
School: Ramkrishna Mission Vidyapith, Purulia

This talented boy from Durgapur is a footballer by passion and willing to make it his profession. He just needs someone to guide him. I had a chat with him, lets see what he has to say...

Q. Please Introduce yourself.

Biswadeep: I am Biswadeep Sarkar. I am from Durgapur .I love to play football.

Q. What is your preferred position?

Biswadeep: I prefer to play in Right Wing Midfield. I can also play in CM, LWM and ST.

Q. So, are you willing to make football as your profession if you get the chance?

Biswadeep: Yes sure

Q. Well, according to your position you need to have a good stamina and speed.

Biswadeep: Yes, as a winger that is a must. A good winger always has to move up and down the field tirelessly. To survive the full game without exhausting one needs to have a good stamina and pace to threaten the opponent. I feel with a bit of training I certainly can do that. If the Europeans can do that, why not the Indians. I am ready to give my everything in the field till my very last breathe.

Q. Tell us something about your past.

Biswadeep: At the age of 9, I started my career with Khudiram AC(a local club). After 2 years, I joined Rabindrabhavan Club. I had a stint with the Durgapur U-14 side in Subhas Chakrobarty tournament. Then I was selected through a trial by the S.A.I.L(Steel Authority of India Ltd.) and joined S.A.I.L and still there. Doing my studies sometimes coincides with my chances of getting to some big clubs.

Q.Where do you see yourself in the future?

Biswadeep: I would love to play somewhere in Europe which is my dream. It will be an honour for me if I get a call-up for the National team.

Q. As a 15 year boy, what are the difficulties you are facing currently on the verge of becoming a footballer?

Biswadeep: Actually, there is no support for young footballers. I feel there is not enough care given to the beautiful game compared to what it deserves especially in our country.

Q. Who is your idol?

Biswadeep: Cristiano Ronaldo.

Q. As a young lad, this is the time where most of the players bloom. Are you giving proper care to your diet?

Biswadeep: Yes, I am trying my bit but I do feel that I need someone who can guied me through. Take for example Lionel Messi, when he was a young kid he didn't had the physique to compete in the top leagues of Spain or anywhere else. He had the skill but lacked the power. Then he was picked up for Barcelona's youth team, and rest is history. Its quite astonishing what proper guidence can do to a player.

Thank you Biswadeep and we really hope that you get into some good clubs soon.

India lacks proper infrastructure for football and the entire system needs to be revamped. More emphasis should be given to the grass root level so that players like Biswadeep doesn't has to hover around. Let's hope players like Biswadeep gets to the place where they are supposed to.
