India: Gourmangi Singh(9'), Sunil Chhetri(52')
Bahrain: Faouzi Aaish(8',Penalty), Ismaeel Abd El-Latif (16′,19′,35′,77′)
Indian team was once again at the receiving end of the match after the game ended 5-2 in Bahrain's favor. Just like the script was written Bahrain went ahead as early as 8th minute when Climax Lawrence brought down Faouzi Aaish in the Indian box. The spot kick was coolly converted by Faouzi Aaish. But, who would have believed that India would respond immediately. Renedy Singh, India's dead ball specialist curled a perfect ball in the Bahrain Penalty box which Abhishek Yadav headed towards an incoming Gourmangi Singh to slot it past the Bahrain goal. The stadium erupted with a bang. The match was becoming more entertaining with fantastic end to end stuff. Unfortunately for India their defence could not cope up with the pace and was broken down by the Bahrain team far too easily letting in three easy goals which included a hat-trick from Bahrain forward Ismaeel Abd El-Latif, one of which was due to lack of judgment by Subrata Paul. In the defence Gourmangi Singh showed why he was awarded with AIFF Player of the Year award.
India's Best players on the pitch: Gourmangi, Renedy and Sunil Chhetri
Indian team responded well in the second half with an amazing goal which should have been awarded to Renedy Singh but instead was awarded to Chhetri after Renedy Singh's fierce left footer from some distance crossed the goal line after hitting the wood-work, but the goal was not given then, Yadav tried to head the ball past the goal but it hit the wood-work again before finally star striker Sunil Chhetri nodded the rebound past the goal in acrobatic fashion. Bahrain's Faouzi Aaish who was the scorer of their first goal through the penalty was shown the marching orders by the referee after he went down in the Indian box despite being unchallenged. Indian team were suddenly playing with real menace and pace against a nervy Bahrain side who were down to 10 men. But, the drama was over shortly after Ismaeel Abd El-Latif created space for himself before scoring with his right foot from just outside the box. The match ended with the same scoreline (5-2 in Bahrain's favor). India will look back at the game and see the defensive blunders they could have avoided. The scoreline does not reflect the actual game played.
