Indian team finally came out of their bad patch to outclass 125th ranked Vietnam side 3-1 thanks to a solid hat-trick by Kansas City Wizard forward Sunil Chhetri. Indian team played their heart out to win the match and walked out with their heads high against a much stronger opponent. The game was played at a brisk pace with both teams creating many chances. Except for the first goal, all the other three goals were scored at the second half. Unlike the last match where Indian team was slow and had less hunger for the ball, it was a completely different scenario here today. Indian team was looking in a more attacking mood. Sunil Chhetri was the first to break the deadlock on 25th minute, when he collected a pass from his strike partner Abhishek Yadav and slotted it past an out of position Goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to the hosts. While India's goal on 19th minute was disallowed for offside Vietnam's goal was also given the same decision by the linesman on 39th minute when Vu Phong scored with a classy finish.
If 1st half was good for India then the second half brough more joy as Sunil Chhetri's awsome backheel found the back of the net from a cross by Anthony Pereira when referee Dinesh Nair played an advantage. In the 63rd minute Vietnam were given penalty due to Surkumar's challenge on Van Phong. Vu Nhu Thanh scored from the spot-kick as Subrata Paul could not save it.The replays however didn't support the penalty dicision. In the mean time Climax Lawrence, Baldeep Singh and Clifford Miranda made way for Renedy Singh, Steven Dias and N.P.Pradeep which made the midfield more rigid. Renedy's lofted ball found Abhishek Yadav who passed it to Chhetri, who himself struck a good left footer to slot it past the Vietnamese custodian to complete his sensational hat-trick. Subrata Paul again shined for India, pulling off some world-class saves. The final 10 minutes of the game saw some really sitters which were somehow missed by the strikers of both teams somehow especially by Abhishek Yadav who somehow managed to miss the target altogether in a one on one situation. Vietnam were also not far behind as they also missed some really easy chances and thus the scoreline was held 3-1 to India. On another day it could easily have been 5-1 or 6-1 to India.
It was one hell of a performance by India and they will surely be in a more positive frame of mind when they next meed Yemen on 12th of this month.
