India lost todays match against Thailand 1-2 played at Ambedkar Stadium,New Delhi.
It was pouring hard at Kick-off. Thailand started the game strongly making some good moves as Indian midfielders were completely outplayed in the first 20 minutes of the game.Thailand dominated first 20 min. India then managed to have some possesion back.Indian midfielders were completely outplayed today. Few defensive blunders were left unpunished by the Thailand players which meant the scoreline remained at 0-0 after the Half time whistle. Goalkeeper Subrata Paul had a tough time as the ball hit the crossbar thrice
but lady luck was in Subrata's favour. One of the Thai player Wichaya was livewire on the field with his speedy runs down the flanks.
Indian striking duo Chhetri and Rafi were not combining well at all. Rafi had the brightest chance for India when Thai defenders made a rare error and Rafi's left footer went iin the wrong direction.Sunil Chhetri was found guilty of not passing the ball in a few ocassions.
Then came the second half where Thailand claimed the lead in the 48th minute of the game when Thai forward Teerathep cleverly chipped the ball over out of position Subrata Paul. Indian defender were found guilty of not challenging the striker. India pulled of some good move after that and an equalizer came at the 54th minute when Anthony Pariera reacted smartly on a defensive lapse from a Thailand defender and made a low cross to unmarked Chhetri which was acrobatically saved by the Thai golie Kawin but Pradeep was at the right position as he headed the ball and the ball recotiated of Kawin and rolled past the goal.
Baichung Bhutia came at the 70th minute replacing Rafi. He made some good moves with Chhetri after coming in and suddenly Indian team was looking a different unit altogether. An acrobatic Baichung narrowly missed a bicycle kick sail wide. Thai players seemed happy to play out the time and were wasting time un-necessarily which meant as much as 7 minutes were added to the normal time. In the 94th minute India were denied penalty claims by the referee although replay suggested that the decision might have gone in India's favour when Bhutia was tripped right at the edge of the box. The scoreline remained the same as India lost back to back to the Bryan Robson coached side.
