Bengal bag their 30th Santosh Trophy title

It was another sterling performance from Bengal players which guided them to their 30th Santosh Trophy triumph.

Bengal started the match with good attacking moves, with majority of them down the flans. But it was Balwant Singh who gave the visitors the lead 1-0 in the 30th minute. Punjab looked more confident after the goal, and started making some good moves with Balwant Singh on the center of all moves. Newly recruited East Bengal striker again looked lively for Bengal but his striking partner Tarif Ahmed was unable to provide the finishing touch. For Bengal rusty looking ONGC striker Tarif Ahmed made way for Souvik Chakraborty. Punjab however could not maintain their lead for much long as Denson Devadas headed in a corner from Snehashish Chakraborty in the injury time of first half.

In the second half, Bengal controlled the game much more. Some good moves made by Bengal tested the Punjab defence, but thanks to Harpreet Singh they somehow managed to hold the scoreline. But as Bengal pushed more players forward, the Punjab defence were sometimes caught napping. But the winning goal came through Denson Devdas when Robin Singh layed off a dummy pass for him and he found the net from absolute screamer of an effort from 35 feets. Truely a world class finish from the Bengal lad. The scoreline remained the same till the Full Time and Shabbir Ali's lad were deservedly crowned the Champions for the 30th time.

CONGRATULATIONS TO BENGAL!!
